Our Story

From Vision to Impact: The Story of Community Collaboration of Delaware

Community Collaboration of Delaware (CCD) began with a simple moment of hope. Two people sat in a small diner in the summer of 2019, talking about the pain they had witnessed in their communities. They saw families losing loved ones, neighborhoods overwhelmed by addiction and stigma, and people who were fighting for their lives with very little support. On a napkin, they wrote a vision for something better. They imagined a place where people would feel seen, supported, and believed in. That napkin became the beginning of CCD.

Since opening our doors in November 2019, CCD has grown because people in Delaware needed someone to walk beside them. We have built programs that meet people exactly where they are, whether they are struggling with substance use, rebuilding a life after incarceration, searching for housing, trying to feed their families, or simply needing someone who will not give up on them.

What makes CCD special is the heart behind the work. Every front-line staff member is in recovery. Nearly half once stood on the other side of our services, hoping for a fresh start. Their presence sends a powerful message to others who feel lost. It tells them that recovery is possible and that their story is not over. As one participant shared, “I have my life back because of CCD. They never gave up on me.”

Through recovery housing, outreach, peer support, SMART Recovery meetings, overdose education, suicide prevention training, and food assistance, CCD has become a place where people come to heal and reconnect with hope.

We began with a napkin. Today, we are a community of people who believe in second chances, in dignity, and in the kind of compassion that can change a life forever.
